Frequently Asked Questions:

May I use these images free-of-charge for school projects?

Occasionally I receive requests to use an image in a school report or for other noncommercial academic purposes. Although I will probably allow this at no cost, I still need to know when this is happening and would like to receive a copy of the final product.

Are all images for sale?

Not all images are for sale. Some contain copyrighted or trademarked material. If you find a photo for sale herein that infringes on a copyright or trademark please email me and I will remove it.

What prevents people from stealing these images?

Karma. Simply put. I have these photos on the Web to share with the world. I understand that many people do not have the time, money, freedom, and/or motivation to travel around the world and see the sights. Therefore, I offer these photos as an alternative and as something to give back to the world. I use the costs of selling these photos to offset the price of taking them and hosting them on this site. I believe that most people are good, and in following that philosophy, I trust that most people would gladly reimburse me if they indeed wanted to use my work in their commercial endeavors.

What cameras did you use to take these photos?

The Middle East 1996 photos were taken with a Pentax K-1000 SLR and 28 - 70 lens. Film used was either Kodak or Fuji 100, 200 or 400. Negatives were later scanned using a CanoScan 2100 and then cleaned in Photoshop.

The Africa 1998 photos were either taken with a Olympus or my same Pentax K-1000 SLR and 28 - 70 lens. Film used was either Kodak or Fuji. Negatives were later scanned using a CanoScan 2100 and then cleaned in Photoshop.

The Asia 2004 photos were all taken with my trusty 4-megapixel Minolta Dimage F100 [ Buy] — an outstanding workhorse that has shot over 8,000 photos without making a single fuss. Batteries used were SANYO Ni-MH 2100 & 2300s — by far the most durable. I only lost power once, at Mt Everest base camp, because everything froze. To alleviate an otherwise extremely stressful moment, I took the batteries out of the -10° camera and shoved them into my naked armpits for about 7 minutes. Once thawed, everything worked perfectly. Memory cards used include the SanDisk 256MB Secure Digital (SD) Memory Card [ Buy].

For Asia 2004, I also shot slides with a Canon A2 and a Canon EF 28 - 135mm IS. Slide film used was Fuji Velvia, Provia, Sensia and Kodak Kodachrome depending on availability, freshness and price. My favorite slide film is Fuji Velvia 100 [ Buy].
